Laverbread, my personal favorite of all the Welsh products, is made with edible seaweed (laver). It’s rich in vitamins, iron, and iodine, which is why it has many health benefits, especially for those with anaemia. The seaweed is first boiled for several hours before being made into a smooth paste with a slight slimy texture. You can fry it up with bacon, cockles and other ingredients to make laverbread. The freshest laverbread is made off the coasts of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
While you can find cockles in other parts of the British Isles, they’re especially popular in coastal Wales. A cockle, a small edible clam, is found in the kind of round shell you would find washed up on a British shore. By raking the sand, they are harvested at low tide. They can be eaten as a breakfast, with bacon and laverbread, as well as as as a snack.
Welsh thetechportal cakes
Welsh cakes are a traditional snack that is served with tea. They are traditionally prepared on a griddle known as a bakestone. These flat and round cakes are made with raisins, sultanas, or currants. They’re often flavoured by cinnamon and nutmeg and then dusted with caster Sugar after baking. Traditional welsh cakes were served hot or cold, but they have been popularized to be cut in half and served with jam, much like a scone.
Glamorgan sausages, which are well-known for being vegetarian, are a rare find. These sausages are a classic type of sausage that dates back to the 1850’s and are made with cheese, leeks, and breadcrumbs. They were traditionally made from Glamorgan Cheese, but it was surprising that the sausage didn’t stop being produced when Glamorgan stopped making it. They are now made with the famous Caerphilly cheese. It is a descendant of the traditional Glamorgan recipe and has a similar texture and taste.
You might also want to try other Welsh delights like Brains bitter, Penderyn whiskey and Welsh lamb. There are many places to eat out in West Wales and you can experience the local cuisine. You can also choose to cook at home in beautiful holiday homes located along the coast.
